On the 21st September, The Hut held an open day to invite professionals in mental health to see what The Hut was all about. We had talks from Trustees, Members and even an appearance from the Lord and Lady Mayor as well as the Guildmaster of the Freemen. The turnout to the event was great and there were few seats left unfilled
The talks from each of the Trustees were met with great response, everyone was clapped off of stage and the crowd looked to be following every word that was said and even getting emotional over some of the things the speakers had to say.
There was a quick crafts session where the Members and volunteers showed the crowd a craft activity- making decorated clocks which were then given out as awards to our special visitors.
All in all, everyone had a wonderful time and we’ve already heard back from several people who attended the event with their thoughts and proposals. The event was a great step forward for The Hut and it was a really emotional experience to hear each speaker go through what makes The Hut special to them, in both who they are and what they do.
Below is a gallery with a selection of images throughout the event:
We had a lovely afternoon at The Hut and were entertained by The Lads, everyone had a great time and there was singing and dancing by everyone.
Th Lads have visited us now 3 times and each time our members really enjoy seeing them, asking when will they be coming back.
A great afternoon, see you again soon!
As a small thank you we presented them with a ‘Hut Made’ clock
Just to let you know that Men’s Lunch club is not on for the next two weeks. Sorry for any inconvenience
Jonny will be back facilitating the Lunch Club on Tuesday 19th September 2017
Kind words from Jack…
My volunteering at The Hut was the leading job on my CV and I believe I would not have even been given the chance to attend the interview without having my time at The Hut as part of my key experiences. Even though I have only been volunteering for a short period of time, I have really really enjoyed every single second. I wanted to say a massive thank you for giving me a chance and welcoming me into your organisation with open arms. Both yourself and Jonny made me feel like a regular from my first session and I really appreciated that, and it only made me enjoy my experience volunteering for The Hut more and more with each session. In truth one of the hardest things about accepting the job was knowing that I wouldn’t be able to come to The Hut anymore and be a part of all the wonderful things you do, I will miss yourself, Jonny, and everyone at The Hut greatly, I will especially miss all the Wednesday game-day regulars who I have built an overwhelming rapport with over the past four months. My hope is that once I move offices to York I can pop in during the week for small periods of time to check in and stay connected with the incredible work going on at The Hut. Once again, thank you. I definitely would not be writing this email without having my experience volunteering at The Hut, it has been an short but integral part of my journey and I will always look back on it fondly.
We wish Jack all the best and we will miss him very much – Emma, Project Manager

It was our trip today in ‘My Journey’ it was decided upon a trip on the river and a picnic in Museum Gardens. There was planning, budgeting and a ‘healthy picnic’ all skills we have developed this term. Although the sun wasn’t shining the weather was ok and we all had so much fun it didn’t matter!
A thank you to City Cruises York for giving us discount and helping us budget and for a very enjoyable cruise along the river.
Well done to all our members who attend ‘My Journey’ and a big thank you to Becca and Georgie too!
